Who do you think is more powerfull? The "elvish Eragon" or Murtagh as a Dragon Rider?? For me its Murtagh, he could have killed Eragon in a few secs, he only showed some mercy.

Well, Murtagh obviously got his strength from Galby. So Murtagh is stronger.

However, Eragon would've been better if Murtagh didn't derive his powers from Galby.

Because it said in the book that Murtagh and Eragon were evenly matched, but that was before Eragon became half-elf.

And also, Eragon can't possibly be full elf because he was human before. He just received the abilities that the elves had. His pointy ears were coming from him being a dragon rider.

I agree...I mean Eragon and Saphira were really tired. If they hadn't been fighting all day and using their magic to help the members of that magic group (can't remember how to spell their name at the moment) and had been sitting around doing nothing I think they would have won.

i think the magic group was something like Du Vangr Gata. and eragon said they should be Du Gata Vangr. lol

I'd like to say Murtagh is the more powerful than Eragon.

Eragon said he could beat Murtagh at full strength with the help of some Elven spellcasters when Nasuada asked him.

Hell no, Murtagh would have kicked Eragons behind (refrains from cussing) even if Eragon was fully rested. What Eragon should have done was to suck the energy from soldiers after he killed their guarding magician, then he MIGHT have had a chance. I wonder how Murtagh healed Thorn's wound so quickly. And when murtagh said that some branches of magic the elves hadn't touched...... that may explain why Murtagh pwned eragon so easily. Galbatorix might have discovered a magic type that was far easier to accomplish than the elven magic that eragon learned.

thats y i picked murtagh...i mean seriously,murtaghs level of magic is WAY over eragons fully rested or taking steroids i dont think eragon could have beaten murtagh...even his swordsmanship was better...even though eragon was a bit more courageous or whatever cuz he jumped off saphira but still murtagh healed that wound completely with a few words...it took eragon about a paragraph when saphira got wounded by gleadr,and when murtagh held saphira in the air,hardly breaking a sweat...dragons weigh a TON and he held her there like she was a piece of paper....murtagh is obviously stronger :/

Oromis knows about the methods used by Galbatorix, and the magic he uses, as in one point in the book where Eragon asks how Galbatorix had gotten stronger over the past century, and Oromis refused to tell him. So, unless the magic they use has a bad side effect, then oromis should have taught eragon that magic.

but so far,that "Downside" hasnt happened yet...or galby would weaken...

and oromis cant know...he may know how he gets stronger...but he doesnt know how he uses magic and is practically undeterred

maybe oromis thinks eragon is still 2 weak or cant handle it. wateva galby knows must be really powerful

I believe that Murtagh is more powerful then Eragon. Eragon has only just 'finished' as much training as he can do before he has to leave to fight. Eragon often becomes overconfident, for example while fighting Vanir.
But hopefully in the third book Eragon whoops Murtagh's ass

Murtagh only gets his power from the vault of souls because Galby opened it up and that's how he keeps getting stronger and stronger and why Murtaghs so powerful

well in Eragon Angela tells him to go to the Rock of Kuthian and to speak his name to open the Vault of Souls now I'm pretty sure it says something about this on shurtugal but I think that what's going on is that Galby is getting his power from the vault which I think is fulll of the souls of those who r killed by his empire and that's the only reason I've come up with for why he keeps getting stronger every year now that hes got Murtagh and Thorn's true names they're getting power from the vault of souls too that explains how Murtagh can do things that even Eragon in elf form couldn't do for example holding Saphira in mid-air and that's the extent of it

yup, and i think with out Galby super powers Eragon could own murty ( super powers = magic that eragon does not know that murty used)

but it also says Alfakyn~elda that when he entered Murtagh's mind in that last fight against him he heard many voices like souls that wanted to be released so there's some extra

Murtagh couldn't be the Vault of Souls because (and I'm just pointing this out, I know you were just speculating) Eragon was told by Solembum to go to the ROCK OF KUTHIAN and SPEAK HIS NAME (common guess is his true name) TO OPEN THE VAULT OF SOULS. So if he speaks his true name to Murtagh before the big fight, Galbatorix will just force Murtagh to tell him. Or Murtagh could use the magic skills that Galby taught him to fight back, giving Eragon enough time to sneak around behind them and kill Galby. Hopefully if that happens Shruikan will suicide like the dragons of Pern do when their riders die. Then we don't have to worry about Saphira dying fighting Shruikan or Thorn. Either way it's just a lot of speculation until the third book comes out. And does anybody have some hard facts about the name and release date? Pm me about it so as not to go off topic.

they started at sunrise which is about 6 or 7 oclock right??? and it said they were fighting untill late afternoon which would be about 3 or 4 oclock... so that means he had been fighting for at least 8 HOURS STRAGIHT!!!!!!!!!!!! NONSTOP for 8 HOURS!!!!!!! Swinging a sword around and around for eight hours will take alot out of you!!

Ive been hearing people say this is from the Vault of souls, im pretty sure it is.
Does any one know what the vault of souls does? or jsut asuming because people are saying what i said above

DEFINITLY ERAGON cuz he could kill murtagh if he was at full strength and murtagh beat him when he was tired.

hopefully Eragon will b, if as has been discussed b4 eragon finds out how to control the energy created by forces he may b able to gain a heck of alot more power or he could find out wots makin murtagh so strong...... but i m rootin on Eragon
