Although yes it would suck if he ended up dieing, what if he did? Just a rough plot...

What if for the final battle, Galbatorix and Eragon ended up stranded alone somewhere, fighting between just themselves, Saphira and Shruiken not with them (though I find it highly doubtful Saphira would leave his side, still, just saying...). While in the final midst of battle, Galbatorix delivers a fatal blow to Eragon, but not enough to instantly kill him, giving Eragon the chance to finish him as Galbatorix feels he has victory at his grasp. Thus ending Galbatorix's reign...but ending Eragons life as well.

Although there are 2 quotes from Angela, in Eragon, that would prove this wrong.

(These are not exact word for word quotes, they are in my own words)
"You will leave Alageasia, and never return"
"You will live a very long life"

From these you would normally think, he's gonna just leave the continent/kingdom of Alageasia or whatever and never come back, as maybe say, going across seas where the Elves came from, and live for a very long time or forever, as Rider's do. But what if...it could possibly be interpreted as:

He will leave Alageasia, yes, dieing would be considered leaving the lands. He will live a very long time doesn't necessarily have to mean he technically "lives". It could mean that his legend and name, as how he rose up to slay Durza and then King Galbatorix, could live on for a long time/forever. So...he dies in the battle with Galbatorix to leave the lands, but for his duty he did, his name will live on.

Any thoughts? Please no criticism or anything, I'm just throwing out ideas

I.......... well technically you are right....i've read the books many times and PAolini certainly noes how to surprise you. But...... I think that he will face Galbatorix AFTER he completes ALL of his training with the elves. So then he will defeate Galbotorix. Then I think that it will explain how he stayed to set up the riders once more and then how he left to explore the lands over the seas, or how the elves agrred to take him to their homeland.

Well, if he died, that would be leaving Alagaeisa and never returning...

yea, but it would be sad killed by galbatorix , and then galbatorix does somewhat of a victory dance and gets shanked/stabed by eragon.eragon never really recovers from the wound from galbatorix gave him and eventually dies.

I think what you said about Eragon and Galbatorix fighting each other in the end is true, but I think Eragon will kill Galbatorix and live.

I don't think Eragon will die, because Paolini seems to be following the classic hero tale, where good conquers evil. Most of the decisions he's made so far have followed this path and I don't think he's going to veer from this course. It was clear that Murtagh and the Twins weren't really dead... following classic treachery within the good side. I predicted that Murtagh was related to him, but I didn't realize they were brothers.... anyways I don't think Eragon will die.

i have read a series of books made in the 30's about dragons (suprising it is really good) and it has some ideas and plots that are in the "Eragon" and "Eldest" books also there are some simalaties from Lord of the Rings.
So my idea from this is that at the end he will travel on an Elven boat off Alagaesia to there home land.... like Lord of the Rings
but before that, i think (like you) that the dragons will not be in the fight, Eragon will be fighting and just as he is about to be killed (he is already wounded) Murtag saves him and either dies or not.
anyway that is my idea so...
if there are any coments on that feel free to write.

You have a strong arguement, but I don't see it happening... plus CP would probably get a lot of hate mail for killing Eragon in Empire (I dont want him to die either, it would be too sad )

I think that if Eragon Died their would be no point in weiting the books so long because of that I think he will live

CP already killed a lot characters in this book but i don't think he would kill eragon too. Maybe the storyline won't go smooth maybe the loss are so much to bear and maybe eragon will end up sad not beeing together with arya or arya died, but eragon will live.

you know what, i think murtagh fights roran if roran becomes the next rider, and then they team up on galby and galby kills roran and eragon kills galby

Maybe somehow Alagaesia will be destroyed. In Eldest, Saphira and Eragon after the Blood-oath Celebration sense impending doom. Maybe everyone in Alagaesia will leave across the seas.

If he dies in Empire it would definately suck! Then it will just end like all these other heroe books- brave warrior dies in battle and so creates and immortal legend. So I believe that he wiil live and hopefully meet his mother and marry ayra. Has anyone considered the possibilty of eragon and nasuada?

the entire point of fantasy books are to keep the readers interested and if it ends just like your everyday story sales will drop i dont think any author would want that i mean you cant just create a character and then kill him/her off. You have a responsibility towards the character and the readers!

That's true in Dragonriders of Pern, not in this series.
Brom's dragon was killed and Brom lived on. Oromis mentioned that when this happens the Rider is only half-alive. On the other hand we have Shruikan whose Rider was killed. However we don't have much to draw upon, since after Shruikan's rider was killed, Galbatorix forced him into servitude through black magic.

That's why Saphira and Eragon pacticed seperating conciousnesses with Glaedr.
