nuh uh. i don't think the weapon under the menoa tree is a sword. i think it will just b a powerful magical source that only a good Rider can control.

firstly its prob broms sword and its not actually undre the menoa tree.
Solembums sed look in the roots of the menoa tree and that could mean the acestors/history. the master sith elf ( i forgot her name) sed that the last two of her swords were with two families. These families could be the ones coneccted with the making of the menoa tree. eh?

The sword is not under the tree, it is with the Linnea family. Second it will be blue and will be shaped like the other sword.

Are you talking about the other 2 swords that survived with those family? If so I dessagree. I don't think that those will play any signifigence and if they did then what would be the point of the Melona tree?

because of the "roots" i.e. lineage of Linnea as in her family. The sword is under, as in under the care of, the roots, the family, of Linnea. So that is one of the swords held by the Elven families. And the other one can be for Arya, the next rider. So, there you go.

You're close, I'MNOTCRAZY. But illegible means something can't be read like a second graders handwriting. Illiterate means you can't read.

that's why I said IT. you can't read something. that means it's illegible.

rpm, we are talking about the second sword that is held by an elven family. that is probably for the next rider, Arya. See, that's why CP picked the number 2, and not 4 or some other number.

I think the sword under the menoa tree will definitely be a sword, not a source of energe or some bit of knowledge that would help him defeat Galby. Most likely it will be Brom's or the first Eragon's. Why Brom?: He went totally nuts when Rhunon wouldn't make him another and he probably knew that his sword wasn't going to be found again or used if it was until it was needed. Kind of like Excalibur. Why the first Eragon?: Because we've never really heard that much about him, other than his dragon was the dragon ambassador during the war with the dragons and that he was the first Rider. It seems to me like it would be saner to do that since some people would like to know more about him. *coughmecough*

we never even heard that the first had a sword!

I think personally that Brom really did lose his sword, but then it was recovered from the Wyrdfell.

But how do we know that he didn't have a sword? I think he did, but Eragon isn't going to get his. Brom's sword is in the possesion of the Wyrdafell because there the ones that took it.

True, but I don't think so. OH!!! I just thought of something.

Brom lost his sword when he was fighting Morzan, right? So what if some soldier of Galbatorix's found it and took it to Galby? If Galby had never been to Ellesmera, then it's quite possible that he never recieved a sword from Rhunon. So in order to strengthen (sp) his abomination of a relationship with Shruikan, he could have took the sword. I mean, it sort of fits. The sword of a Rider and a Rider who was his enemy to boot? What do y'all think?

Where did you hear that? I meant that a normal soldier might have found it. Not a member of the Forsworn. By the time Brom fought Morzan for possession of Saphira's egg, all the other Forsworn members were dead. I think it says so in Eldest.

When they fought, Brom killed Morzan so he couldn't have kept the sword for a trophy.

because of the "roots" i.e. lineage of Linnea as in her family. The sword is under, as in under the care of, the roots, the family, of Linnea. So that is one of the swords held by the Elven families. And the other one can be for Arya, the next rider. So, there you go.

This is convincing, but Solembum says the Menoa Tree. It can't mean Linnea's family. He meant the actual tree.

Yes, but have you never heard the term: 'family tree'?

You know how Sirius Black has a tapestry of his family tree? Well if his mother hadn't stuck it to the wall, you might be able to look under it. And some people have vaults and stuff under portraits in their house. That could be it.

yeah. CP likes doing that.

Linnea IS the menoa tree. so look under the roots of Linnea. look under the lineage of Linnea. yeah. it all fits perfectly.

it's probably the first eragon's sword because remember the elf lady vowed that she would never forge another "weapon of destruction". so for you people that think she forged an axe, think again!

I think I might have found a loophole that could have been used, if not for Solembum. She vowed to never make a "weapon of DESTRUCTION" again. In Eragon's hands the sword wouldn't be a "weapon of destruction", it would be more like a "weapon of justice" or something to that effect. But thanks to what Solembum said, we don't really have to consider that fact. One less headache in my book.

I don't think so. I think Brom's sword was destroyed after his dragon died, otherwise he would have kept it. I think the sword under the Menoa tree is the first Eragon's sword.

Ryempas, that's a good assumption that Brom's sword was destroyed when his dragon died. However, there is evidence in both Eragon and Eldest that suggests otherwise. In Eragon, Brom himself tells Eragon that he lost his sword when he was fighting Morzan for Saphira's egg. In Eldest, Rhunon tells him the same thing. Brom came to her to ask her to make him another sword after his fight with Morzan. She couldn't however, because she had already made her oath to never make a weapon of destruction again.

you guys, BROM NEVER HAD A PROPER RIDER'S SWORD!!!! in the first book, brom said to eragon that when a rider FINISHED HIS/HER TRAINING they received a proper sword. remember, brom never did finish his training due to the fact that his dragon was killed at doru araebia. since his dragon was killed, he was no longer considered a rider.

He did have one. It said his 'young dragon' was killed. Who are we to guess how old a young dragon would be, when Rider's and their dragons lived for a very long time. He could very well have finished his training before the fighting a Doru Araeba. And Rhunon herself said that Oromis had to knock Brom unconscious when she told him she couldn't make him ANOTHER sword.

You're correct, I don't think anybody has ever thought of that. But do you really think Eragon is going to stand a chance against Galby with a knife? Because it seems to me that that's what she stabbed him with. It is a good idea though, and one that I'll keep in mind.

ok. back to reality: it's not the first Eragon's sword because he didn't ever have a true rider's sword. It wouldn't hold as much meaning compared to, let's say, his father's (Brom's) sword.

The first Eragon did have a sword, we know this because Rhunon was alive and making things back then. How do we know this? Because Orik told Eragon that she had been apprenticed to the dwarf who created his clan. And that was a really long time ago. I have no doubts that she made him a sword, however, if it ain't his sword, then it has to be Brom's. Though I don't really know how that's going to work since he lost it fighting Morzan.

BROMS SWORD IS LOST! if he had it then he wouldn't have begged Rhunon to replace it! plus who would have hid it under the tree! the theory that the weapon that Linnea stabbed her x-lover and his new mate with lies under the roots makes a lot more since than any of the other ones i have read. so i ask that everyone discard the theory that it's Broms sword. also i don't think that Brom is Eragons father. why would a woman who was so deeply in love with morzan that she did his dirty work bed with his enemy!!!! :-k

Post Re: What the sword under the meona tree looks like?
please, spell swOrd right when you are talking in a topic about swords.

it was lost TO HIM, but who is to say that it wasn't recovered by Linnea's family later? there are two swords UNDER the protection of elven families. roots can mean lineage, and Linnea's lineage is her family, so the sword is under Linnea's family's protection. Also, look at the similarity between the words Linnea and lineage. That's probably not coincidental.

It is Brom's sword because it would be Eragon's INHERITANCE, Brom being Eragon's father. That, in itself, is enough.

Linnea's family? i thought she had no one that's why when the young elf wooed her she felt whole with some thing she never felt before and when he left her she killed him and his new lover in a fit of jealousy. if she had a family she would have be familiar with the feelings of love and jealousy and probably would not have killed them (her x-lover and his new lover).
also sorry to imnotcrazy i did not me to be rude but i don't see how Brom is Eragons father. did i miss something in the book?

There are a whole bunch of topics about why Brom is Eragon's father, go check them out, that should tell you all you need to know. And when IMNC said Linnea's family, we're talking about ppl like her parents, descendants of brothers and sisters, things like that.

Post Re: What the sword under the meona tree looks like?
well i guess Brom could be Eragons father because the book says his love of a woman would be her down fall so he could have loved her and the out come was that she died in child birth. but what i don't under stand is that if she was as deeply in love with morzan as the book said why would she she bare the child of her beloved's mortal enemy?
but i don't think Linnea has any existing family because elf children are rare, and her parents could not still be alive because in Linnea's and her parents time elves where not immortal.
i also think if she had siblings she would be familiar with the feeling of love and jealousy and if the feeling had not been new to her destiny would have been different. so she would not have killed and sang herself in the tree so there may not have been a tree to put a weapon under

1. Selena did not die in child birth. We know this because when Murtagh was telling his story to Eragon in the first book he said his mother disappeared for a couple of months and when she came back she didn't live long and died.
2. I have a brother and never once have I been jealous of him. So we can assume that she had a brother or sister and just never spent enough time with them to feel those emotions.

i don't see any snapping. that looks like calm, calculated points. snaping is when you start out with caps, except if ur me, I JUST LIKE CAPS!!!

yeah. what I meant by family is that she may have had siblings, extended family, and such. And I'm pretty sure that an elven "house" is like a Clan. I don't remember where I read that, but it might be something like that.

Hold on... Tallying up the number of swords in existence....

1. Galby's
2. Zar'roc-Recently stolen from Eragon by Murtagh.
3. Elven Family
4. Elven Family
5. Naegling- Oromis's sword (did I get the name right? It sort of came off the top of my head, think I might have confused it with something else...)
6. Is a possibilty that either belonged to Brom, 1st Eragon, or someone else.

I feel like I forgot somebody... I JUST HAD AN IDEA!! caterpillar! It's gonna blow you away!!

In answer to your question, Ryempas:

IT AIN'T ME DOIN' IT!!! I CAN'T COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT'S HAPPENED IN THE LAST MONTH, AND IT AIN'T ME DOIN' IT!!!!

Hem-hem, now that my rant is over, back to business. I doubt that Eragon is going to take one of those swords because of what Solembum told him. I believe that he is going to find his sword under the roots of the Menoa tree, just like the werecat told him. (It could be any kind of Menoa tree. Family tree, that monstrosity of a tree, etc.)

whops. I misread what you posted. I thought you were saying that one of the two remaining swords might be Brom's. nvm. My point was that those swords were recovered from the Wyrdfell by the families that protect them. Brom's sword might be one of them and it would fit perfectly into the storyline: Brom's sword would be Eragon's INHERITANCE and it would complete the symmetry: Murtagh and Eragon both have their father's swords and they both have dragons by their father's Dragon's names.

How do you know that Morzan's dragon's name was Thorn? It never said in any of the books. What we do know is that the color of their dragons match that of their fathers. Brom and Eragon: blue; Morzan and Murtagh: red. Brom: Saphira; Eragon: Saphira; Murtagh: Thorn; Morzan: ???

i was speculating there, but it probably was named Thorn. The book has a certain symmetry.

Or it could be different part of flower. I don't know but Eragon always seemd to be rather dumb so he just can't think of good name on his own so he used Saphira from Brom's tales. But i think it was different with Murtagh. He always act as clever boy so he just choosed something what will suit his dragon. Like on Murtaghs and Thorns first fligh Thorn migh have dropped Murtagh into roses, Murtagh couldn't forgive him that easily and named him Thorn.

When it comes to problems with imagination I must say it's Eragon's bloodline problem. Remember about Roran and why he choosed hammer as his favourite toy. They both are so easy to manimuplate :?

i doubt that morzan would name his dragon after his fathers dragon he hated his father.
also about the swords. i normally agree with you Saphirarox but i thought there were only four riders swords in existence.
1. Galby's
2. Zar'roc.
3. some currently unknown sword that belongs to an Elven Family
5. Oromis's sword

2. recovered from wyrdfell

4. oromis
5. zar'roc
rhunon said something about that, i think, about zar'roc being returned to her, but maybe i'm wrong and if i am, please excuse me.

Nope, unless Eragon gets a Rider's sword from underneath the roots of the Menoa family tree, there is a sword under the Menoa tree in Du Weldenvarden. And Rhunon said that as far as she knew, there were only four of her swords still out there. Oromis, Galby, and the two elven family heirlooms. Now that Zar'roc returned to her, she knows that there are five out there. So there could very well be another the she either didn't know about or forgot about under the Menoa tree.

yeah, good point, after all, if zar'roc was "lost" for such a long time, maybe the same thing happened to another sword. i don't think it was the weapon linnea stabbed her x-lover though.

You are indeed wise and experienced! You may encounter foes along your path and you are definitely brave enough to face them. However, you are wise enough to know when you can avoid a fight and save your energy. Your keen ability to think on your feet, resourcefulness, and ability to make allies are skills invaluable in any conflict.

I can answer that. Do you think that when Linnea sung herself into the Menoa tree that she would want to be reminded of the thing she had done that drove her to do that in the first place? So I doubt she would have put a bloody weapon under one of the things she loved so well: plants. No, I think it will be the weapon of some Rider or another. So if it ain't under the actual Menoa tree, it will be under the roots of Linnea's family tree. And I just had a grodey thought. What if it's buried with some dead member of Linnea's family? Remember, when she sung herself into the tree, the elves weren't immortal yet. So it's very possible, but also very gross.

That's not how I interpreted it. It seems to me that for a piece of magic that large, there would have had to of been some sort of cleansing ceremony so it would work properly.

may be she used all of her pent up feelings\anger as power and right after she stabbed them sang her self into the tree.
