um hello she had been intrusted with saphira's egg thats kinda a big part and she has been doing that job for years and is going to continue to be an abassador for the elves

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she CHOOSE to become an ambassador? Also, ever think that she could be important in other ways than being a Rider? Riders are not the center of the universe, they're powerful yes, but not everything. Arya, like many other characters, is made an important part of the story because she has her own role to play. She was intrusted with the egg, and that's no small thing. Saphira's egg was the Varden's biggest hope. She also plays a role in Eragon's maturing, as his friend and love interest. Eragon's struggle to understand and deal with his feelings is the kind of experience that he can learn from; it is an important emotional battle and I believe he will be wiser because of it. And, yes, she is Ambassador; you must not think highly of them, if you think she's too good for that. She is the sole envoy of her people in the Varden. And you may ask, what exactly does that do? It is important for all races involved in resisting Galbatorix to be connected. In this case, the elves are hundreds of miles away from everyone else. Communication is possible, but when quick decisions are needed, Arya is there to stand for her people's position. There are three races in the Varden, and they all need to cooperate. While in Farthen Dur, the Varden had direct contact with the dwarves, however, the elves were far away. If Arya wasn't there it would be like the elves didn't have a seat on a hypothetical committee.

I think Arya is very much an diplomat; yes, she is skilled in many things, like fighting and magic, but she is also wise and fair. That is what makes her a great person, a strong person, and good at what she does. She can't help being an important character, and that in no way points to her being the 3rd rider, in fact it is nothing but a testament to all that she does.

I could go on further about your 'proof', INC, but I think right now I will simply say this: I have not seen any concrete PROOF pointing to any one person being the next rider. Everything is a matter of opinion, and until we read the 3rd book, there will be no proof.

Now I would like to take a moment to explain my choice. Out of the choices given, I think Nasuada is the most likely. I doubt it will be her, actually. She, like Arya, already has a role as leader of the Varden, and I really don't see her as a fighter. In the end, I don't think the 3rd rider will be anyone we know. New characters can be either a good thing or a bad thing, but I think CP can definately make it good.

lol. you know as well ast i that you can't prove ANYTHING. i just like the word proof. it sounds better than evidence. I might change it to stuff that makes Arya 10X more likely than anyone else. lol.

ok. she did choose to be ambasador: she chose to have the yawe tatooed on her back, and in doing so, dedicating hreself to the benefiet of her race, however she might do such. Yeah she has a big role and such, but that doesn't meen that her role can't grow further.

My point was that she never seemed truly happy as Ambasador. She didn't seem to fit, but not because of her qualifications and character traits.

personally, i don't understand what her being the sole envoy of the elves has anything to do with her being the next rider, or disproving it. if anything, her being a rider would help her in that job, but again i will say that it will neither help, nor hurt the argument.

as to new characters, that has been disproved by something CP said himself. I can't point you to the exact quote. For that you will need to ask AnnieBee. It says that there are many clues in Eragon and Eldest pointing to the next rider. This disproves any notion of minor characters and new characters being the next rider. And also disproves nasuada who has no forshadowing directed at her being the next rider.

well as she said. neither of us really have any legitimate proof of who will be the next rider. we're both kind of grasping at straws to try and prove our points. I would like it if I could voice my opinion about the next rider without you chiming in and laughing at it or saying its wrong when we both don't have good proof to back up our arguments. I find that very rude. there is no reason why you have to do that just to say that you think Arya will be the next rider.

Firstly, no, her being the the ambassador doesn't mean that she's not the next Rider. I was using that as a reason why she already has a large role. And, no, that doesn't mean that her role can't expand further. But, I think, if it expands further, she becomes a little too important. Arya may be a great help as a Rider, but if we have her as she is now AND another Rider, we'd be doing even better. Two people are better than one, no matter how powerful one might be. I think bringing in a less prominent character as the next Rider will be more helpful than simply adding power to someone who's already got enough. That's alot to pile on Arya, and honestly, it would be better to have someone else as the next Rider so that both can do their jobs to the best of their abilities.

What does this all boil down to? Nothing really. All I have is my opinions, my reasons for my opinions, and my gut feeling. That's not legitimate evidence, I know that. I don't have proof, and neither do you. But I'm not going to argue any further about the use of the word proof, you have every right to like it. I would say that calling something proof that isn't is lieing, but I won't (ah, but I just did, oh well).

As Merala's friend, she has told me about you, and I'd like to resay one of her points, maybe alittle differently: Sure, you may think that soneone's argument is illegitimate, doesn't have any evidence to back it up, etc. But that is no reason to laugh in their face. In fact, there is never a reason to laugh in someone's face for simply stating their opinion, never, no matter how silly it is. You know how you respond? By stating your own opinion. That's how discussions work. Laughing at someone's ideas is rude, especially someone you don't know. There are plenty of ways to express your dislike of someone's opinion without using 'lol', and all of them are more useful and persuasive. I can't think of any instance in which I've been swayed to someone else's side by being laughed at.

first, another person as rider would be too weak. Without the adaquit (is that how you spell it? i'm a terrible speller) training, a rider would be nearly useless, no more powerful than Eragon before his transformation and prior to his back wound. If Eragon couldn't beat Murtagh, then how are Eragon and the new rider going to beat Murtagh AND Galby if the rider is only as powerful as Eragon WAS?! Even if they would be more powerful individually, if Arya is not the next rider, she would not be in the final battle (referring to Murtagh & Galby vs. Eragon & the next rider). Thusly, it is irrelavent that 2 are better than one, because ultimately, it will be riders vs. riders.

i seriously believe Roran, because i've seen a sneak peak at book 3 and Eragon and Roran invades the Ra'Zac lair only to find nuthing there. For a minute it was silent until saphira gets tackled by the Ra'Zac's parent and Eragon falls to the floor, so i believe they will be captured..

SO RORAN IS THE THIRD RIDER!

that is terrible evidence. so he goes into the Helgrind! Hopefully Saphira will be able to fight some, and Eragon will come to eventually to finish off the Ra'zac. And nothing happens to Roran, so they still have a slight chance. And even if the egg is there, the egg does not need to hatch for the first person it comes in contact with.

out of all, Arya is probably the most likely. There is the most evidence supporting (ie forshadowings) and it would be the most logical.

Here's my theory:

My theory

Ok, so here's what I think:
1:Katrina is going to find the egg in Galby's castle, escape, & then the egg will hatch for her.
2:Murtagh is gonna kill Galby.
3:Roran is gonna "Break up" with Katrina.
4:Arya will get injured very badly & might possibly die.

Reasons:
1:Katrina is already in the castle so it makes sense for her to find the egg.
2:Everyone thinks Eragon will kill him just cuz he was the first Dragon Rider. It would make a plot twist to have Murtagh kill him.
3:He will get mad cuz she is gonna be the next Dragon Rider and that takes her away from him or he might not even approve
4:This would make Arya relize she likes Eragon or Eragon relize he doesn't like Arya or both.

While she is tryin to get out, she will find the egg and take it with her & it will hatch on the journey back.

It would mix things up if there was a dwarf rider but that wouldnt fit. So far there are 2 human riders so it would make sense to have an elf be the next unless Christopher is gonna mix it up. It probably wont be any of the people you have mentioned because that would be way too obvious or way too far fetched ;/

Yea it definatly won't be orik or any other dwarf thats impossible. but it will probobly be someone who we don't expect or someone we don't know.

I picked Roran but...i think Katrina may the next Rider...If they are in Helgrind and the eggs are there, when Eragon comes there and saves them ERagon may be fighting the Ra'zac and won't be able to get the egg, so then katrina runs over and grabs the egg they fly off and in a few days it hatches for her. THen TADA! Katrina is the new rider.
