Unfortunately I am not joking. You can get really bad computers for about $500 or something, but for an average one its about $1200. More powerful ones are about $1800 +.

if you cant fix it or don't want to buy a new comp, call geek squad they can be reall expensive tho, but windows just made a new version vista or something, but you need to software to do stuff with i-pod my friend said. his comp crashed.

Wolvie,, I'm really sorry to hear about your computer disaster..

My classmate got this 'trojan' virus attacked her computer and she had to postponed her graduation one whole semester because all her work on FINAL PROJECT was infected and gone,, exactly like your exams (and don't have back-ups)

That's why I made my hardisk into partitions, Drive C (mainly for program files), Drive D (miscelanious, including my files/work), Drive E (video/musics/pictures), Drive F (scanlations,, manga download or e-book) each drive is about 20-30 GB.

That's how I prevent major loss, because couple of times my comp was infected and I need to re-format my windows,, but it's only drive C gone, while the other drives are fine..

But if your computer got a virius or whatever, wouldn't you just lose those drives anyway? Because they are actualy on the computer at all times aren't they?

Annie, when you get a new computer, do you get Microsoft Windows? Because if ya do you'll be getting the new Windows Vista then.

virus usually attacking the system first (drive C),, and as long as we're not open the other drives (or do anything,, because i don't quite understand how virus works) the virus will be isolated. And if we reformat the windows,, then it'll be no prob to other drives.

Btw what's so good about windows vista? I recall ppl keep mention it..

Improved technology. In microsoft word you can speak the thing you want to write and the computer automatically types it, that means that you don't have to type it just say what you want to computer to type and it will do so.

Yeah, I was at Best Buy (it's a major Electronics store here in the US) a couple of weeks ago and I saw all the new computers are coming with Windows Vista. So I imagine that if I buy the laptop for her, (or if she buys it which is most likely) it will come with the Vista application.

Wolverine will also have to get Vista if he buys microsoft windows. Theres several Vista packages you can get rangin from basic to premium and higher I think. The higher ones cost about $400 I think.

Check the hardware !!

check the memory slot. Cmon,, it's fixable... You can allocate your saving somewhere else... at least try first,, or did you check the hardware? Perhaps there's some conflict or perhaps you need to clean (literally,, using brush or vacuum cleaner) the CPU. Worth a try..

it was a virus, at the first place,, wasn't it? So whatever the virus, it had to be vanished at the time you reformat ur comp,, so it's basically gone.

It might be a problem with your RAM, Processor, or your graphics card. If you are running high-end applications on that computer. I suggest against Vista at this point since many applications aren't backwards compatible with it. I would wait at least 2 more months before upgrading.
