It would totally suck if Saphira was killed accidentally (To save Eragon) or by Gallby. I would be soo outraged and sad. What is your opinion on that?

Well, Saphira is the last female dragon alive. This is one of the reasons Galbatorix is so determined to capture both Eragon and Saphira, in order for her to lay more eggs and continue the dragon breeding so to control all Alagaesia. Therefore I don't think Saphira will die.

But in the second to last chapter of Eldest Murtagh spacifically said that the last dragon was male.

It still could be possible. Maybe after she mates, then Gallby will kill her and eragon because one of the offspring would be a girl.

But Pomfret, if that gets to happen it is possible Galbatorix and his reign of terror is just a nightmare of the past and a new generations of dragons and riders would be in existance.

right annie. and i'm sure cp is just as attatched to the caracters as we. although brom (a major caracter) died. he died for the greater good. to save eragon. every story nneeds some tragity, just not totall tragity. i stand by saphira living

If it is as CP stated to be using the "hero journey" Brom had to die. We see the pattern in this type of story:
Luke-Obi Wan
Arthur-Merlin
Harry-Dumbledore
Peter-Aslan and these are just to name the most common of the "hero journey" stories. These are the first from the top of my mind, there are many other excellent ones.
